Mega Homecoming Garter FAQs

Mega styles, pricing, custom shapes, personalization, fit, matching sets, shipping, and when to order.

What is a Mega Homecoming Garter?

A Mega Homecoming Garter is the oversized, premium arm garter — fuller ribbon, elaborate braids, layered cutouts, lots of personalization, and a much bigger presence than a traditional garter. It’s built to be a statement piece for homecoming week, the pep rally, game day, and all the photos. Shop Mega Garters →

What is the difference between a traditional garter and a Mega Garter?

A traditional Bronze, Silver, or Gold garter keeps that classic, more compact round-flower look. A Mega goes bigger — a larger build with a premium decoration level, more movement, and more room to personalize. Pick traditional when you want a comfortable, classic arm size; go Mega when you want the garter itself to be the showstopper.

Is a Platinum Garter the same as a Mega Garter?

At 828 Mega Mums by Starla, the Platinum Level Garter is the starting point of the Mega Garter family — it’s the premium Mega design in a non-shaped, more traditional-format build. The Paw, Texas, and Western Megas use that same premium decoration level, they just add a distinct shape or theme.

How much does a Mega Homecoming Garter cost?

Right now the shop lists the Platinum Level Mega at $225 and the Paw Shaped Mega at $295, with Texas Shape and Western pricing coming once they’re finalized. Shaped and specialty-theme builds can run a bit more, because the custom backer, reinforcement, specialty materials, and extra design time get added on top of that same premium ribbon, braid, and cutout level.

Why does a custom-shaped Mega Garter cost more?

It’s more than just extra decoration. A shape has to be designed, cut, reinforced, balanced, and assembled so it reads clearly while still holding flowers, ribbon, braids, cutouts, and all that movement on an armband. What you’re paying for is the custom structure, the premium materials, the personalization, and the extra hours of hand-building that go into it.

What Mega Garter styles will be available?

The planned lineup is the Platinum Level Mega, Paw Shape Mega, Texas Shape Mega, and Western-themed Mega Garter — with room to add more down the road. All four are built to the same premium standard of cutouts, braids, ribbon, and personalization; the visual details just change with the shape or theme you choose.

What is included in a Platinum Level Mega Garter?

The Platinum Level Mega is the premium Mega package in that traditional, non-shaped format. It carries the collection’s full decoration standard — premium ribbon, elaborate braids, layered personalized cutouts, your school and activity details, and a full statement-piece finish. (Exact quantities get published once the live package chart is confirmed.)

What is a Paw Shaped Mega Garter?

A Paw Shaped Mega Garter is built around a paw silhouette or structure — not just a little paw cutout added on. It’s perfect for Bobcats, Bulldogs, Cougars, Wildcats, Panthers, Tigers, Bears, or any paw-friendly mascot, and it’s personalized with your school colors, mascot details, name, class year, activities, and the same premium Mega-level ribbon, braids, and cutouts.

Can the Paw Mega match any school mascot?

It’s an especially great fit for schools with animal mascots that already go by a paw. The shape adapts through color, lettering, mascot cutouts, claws or pads, and school initials. If your mascot isn’t really a paw kind of thing, just ask — Starla will tell you whether a Texas, Platinum, Western, or another shape down the line would tell your theme better.

What is a Texas Shape Mega Garter?

A Texas Shape Mega Garter is an oversized custom garter built around the State of Texas outline (or a strongly Texas-centered build). It can feature your school colors, a marker for your hometown or school, stars, football, boots, and Texas lettering, plus the name, class year, and activities — all at the same premium Mega level of cutouts, ribbon, and braids.

Is a Texas-shaped backer different from a Texas cutout?

Yep. A Texas-shaped backer makes the state outline part of the garter’s actual structure. A Texas cutout is a smaller decorative piece added onto a standard backer. The shaped backer takes more planning and reinforcement, and it makes a much stronger silhouette in photos.

What is included in a Western-themed Mega Garter?

A Western-themed Mega uses the same premium Mega-level ribbon, braids, cutouts, and personalization, then styles all the details around a Western look. Think cow print, turquoise, brown and gold, bandana or rope motifs, stars, boots, hats, belt-buckle styling, livestock, rodeo, ranch, FFA — whatever fits the wearer.

Can a Western Mega Garter use school colors instead of turquoise and cow print?

Absolutely. Turquoise, brown, and cow print are the classic Western signals, but they’re not required. A Western Mega can run on your school colors as the main palette and still read Western through boots, hats, rope, stars, bandana print, Western lettering, or livestock details.

Can you make a Western Mega for FFA, livestock, rodeo, or ranch activities?

For sure. A Western Mega can be personalized for FFA, 4-H, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, rodeo events, ranch life, or an ag project. Just send the specifics — the species, the event, your chapter or organization, an award — so the design actually reflects what the student does.

Do the Platinum, Paw, Texas, and Western Mega Garters have the same amount of ribbon, braids, and cutouts?

That’s the plan — all four are built to the same premium level of ribbon, braids, cutouts, personalization, and finish. What changes is the shape or theme details. A shaped design might still land at a different price, since the backer construction and specialty materials take extra work.

Can I customize the name, class year, jersey number, mascot, and activities?

Yes — that’s the whole point. A Mega Garter can carry the wearer’s name, a date’s name, class year, “Senior,” jersey number, school initials, mascot, sport, band, FFA, livestock, a club, a Bible verse, colors, and approved theme details. Just lead with what matters most so the design stays clear and easy to read.

Can a Mega Garter be made in senior white and gold or white and silver?

Definitely. Any of the Platinum, Paw, Texas, and Western concepts can be done in that senior white-and-gold or white-and-silver, and you can still work in school colors or a custom accent. Senior colors are a lovely tradition, but the wearer’s own style always gets the final say on the palette.

Can you make matching Mega Mum and Mega Garter sets?

Yes — it’s one of our favorite ways to order. A Mega Garter can coordinate with a traditional mum, a senior mum, or a custom-shaped Mega Mum through shared colors, specialty ribbon, braid patterns, names, activities, mascot details, and theme. The two pieces can look like a real set without being the exact same shape.

Can you match a Mega Garter to a mum ordered somewhere else?

Usually, yes. Send clear photos in natural light along with the school, colors, and the details that matter most, and Starla will coordinate the look as closely as she can — just know that exact ribbon dye lots, one-of-a-kind braids, or discontinued embellishments from another maker may not be an identical match.

Is a Mega Garter heavy or hard to wear?

A Mega is bigger and more decorated than a traditional garter, so yes, it’s got more presence and a little more weight — that’s part of the fun. How comfy it feels comes down to the band fit, the backer structure, the balance, the streamer length, and what’s on underneath. Share the arm measurement and the clothing plan and Starla will build it for how it’ll actually be worn.

How do you keep a custom-shaped Mega Garter from sagging or twisting?

A shaped Mega needs a backer that’s rigid but still wearable, secure attachment points, balanced ribbon and braid placement, and an armband suited to the finished weight. The shape and the decoration have to be planned together — just adding a big shape to a standard lightweight backer is what causes the twisting and sagging, and that’s exactly what Starla builds around.

How do I measure for a Mega Garter?

Wrap a soft tape around the upper arm right where the garter will sit — comfortably, not pulled tight. Measure over the actual layer the wearer plans to have on (shirt, jacket, or uniform), and send that number along with a heads-up about a larger bicep, a sensory concern, a mobility need, or a preference for an alternate attachment.

Can a Mega Garter be worn over a varsity jacket or football pads?

It might be — but only with a band planned for that circumference and layer, so let’s talk it through before it’s built. Measure around the exact jacket or gear area and make sure the placement won’t get in the way of movement or safety. A Mega shouldn’t be forced over bulky gear with a standard band.

Can I choose an alternate armband or bandana-style tie?

Just ask Starla when you order. An alternate attachment can be really handy for larger arms, layered clothing, comfort, or a Western theme — as long as it can safely hold the finished Mega’s size and weight. She’ll confirm what works for your specific design.

When should I order a custom-shaped Mega Garter?

As early as you can once you know your school’s homecoming date and what you want on it. Custom shapes and themed Megas need more design and build time than a traditional garter, and seasonal spots fill up. Plan around the first day it’ll be worn, and add in shipping time if you’ll need it mailed.

Can I order a Mega Homecoming Garter online?

You can. The live Mega category currently has the Platinum Level and Paw Shaped Megas — pick your base design, then send over the colors, name, class year, school, mascot, activities, fit, need-by date, and theme details. The Texas and Western product links will go up when those listings are live. Order a Mega Garter →

Can you rush a Paw, Texas, or Western Mega Garter?

Maybe — it depends on the production calendar, the materials, the shape, the personalization, and your pickup or shipping deadline. A custom-shaped or heavily themed Mega is harder to rush than a traditional garter, so reach out to Starla before you order rather than counting on a generic peak-season turnaround.

Can you ship a custom-shaped Mega Garter?

Often, yes — but a Mega needs enough transit time and really protective packaging for the backer, braids, ribbon, cutouts, and all the dimensional details. Check the live shipping options and order cutoff at checkout, and keep in mind that local pickup cuts down on the transit risk when it’s an option for you.

Will my Mega Garter look exactly like the product photo?

It’ll follow the package level and the theme you approve, but because every one is handmade and personalized — different names, schools, mascots, activities, colors, specialty materials, and shape details — no two come out identical. Think of the product photos as a great example of the scale and style, unless a listing specifically promises an exact duplicate.
